Daddy Donkey Guacamole Recipie Revealed:

Recently, London street-food kings Daddy Donkey posted their guacamole recipie online. This coincided with an appearence by Daddy D proprietor Joel Henderson on the Market Kitchen show on the Good Food Channel.

I'm a big fan of guac in my burrito and after being challenged to follow the Daddy Donkey recipie for myself, I thought I'd give it a go. Time to check out the recipie...

Daddy Donkey Guacamole Recipie:

400g of soft Hass avocadoes (approx. 4 x medium-sized avocadoes)*
75g of red onion, diced finely
30g of pickled jalapeño chile, diced finely (approx. 1 x medium-size jalapeño)
Juice from 1 soft medium-sized lime
20g of fresh coriander, washed and chopped roughly
Salt to taste (approximately 1/2 tsp)

I picked what I needed from my local supermarket and got to work chopping away. The ASDA avocadoes were not the best but I had to make do so after some scooping and dicing the guac was beginning to take shape. In the fridge for about an hour and voila ... well, sort of!

This initial tentative attempt at 'kick-ass' guacamole didn't really make the cut. Not anything like the stuff that goes in the burritos, but at least it was part of the way there! Honestly it wasn't half bad and it did taste better than it looked. Next time I'll try to be a little less rushed. I scooped away at it with some tortilla chips.

Imitation Guacamole?

Now for a little bit of madness...

Guacamole is of couse a Mexican favourite. Now maybe it was a result of a couple of drinks but strangely this got me thinking. What is a British favourite? Ah yes - Marmite!

You can guess the rest of this story folks. It had to happen - somebody somewhere was bound to mix Marmite with guacamole at some point. That person was me!

"Guacamole" and "Guarmite"

Simply mix a teaspoon or so with a small amount of guacamole and that unique taste of "Guarmite" is yours!

And what was the result of this crazy and (slightly) drunken experiment? Well, I doubt I will be mixing that combination of ingredients anytime soon but it was worth a try. Seriously now - don't knock it 'till you've tried it!!!
